An Act relative to stenographer compensation.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Section 88 of chapter 221 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 
2Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place 
3thereof the following sentence:- "Upon request of the presiding justice or any party, the 
4stenographer or transcriber shall furnish a paper or electronic reproduction transcript of a trial or 
5hearing for which he shall be paid by the party requesting it at the rate of $4.00 per page for the 
6original and $1.50 per page for each additional copy ordered at the same time, but not to be less 
7than $20.
8 SECTION 2. Section 88 of said chapter 221, as so appearing, is hereby further amended 
9by deleting the second sentence.  2 of 2
10 SECTION 3. Section 88 of said chapter 221, as so appearing, is hereby further amended 
11by deleting the fourth sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- 
12"Additional paper or electronic reproduction copies, if so requested by an indigent person or 
13counsel for an indigent person, shall be paid at $.35 per page, but not to be less than $20."
14 SECTION 4. Section 88 of said chapter 221, as so appearing, is hereby further amended 
15by deleting the fifth sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- "In the event 
16that daily copy is ordered by the presiding justice or any party, the rate shall be $5.75 per page 
17for the original paper or electronic reproduction copy and $2.25 per page for each additional 
18paper or electronic reproduction copy; provided that, additional paper or electronic reproduction 
19copies, if so requested by an indigent person or counsel for indigent person, shall be paid at $.35 
20per page, but not to be less than $20."
