[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 2428 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to fire safety of state-owned buildings, structures and property. Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to promote the safety of the public, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public safety. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Chapter 148 is hereby amended by inserting after section 4 the following 2new section: 3 Section 4A. Applicability of the fire laws and fire code in state-owned buildings:- 4 “The provisions of the state fire code under said chapter 148 of the General Laws, and the 5rules and regulations promulgated therefrom by the board of fire prevention regulations, shall 6apply to all buildings, structures and property owned, operated or controlled by the 7Commonwealth, other than the State House. The Head of the Fire Department, as defined in 2 of 2 8section 1 of chapter 148, shall enforce the provisions of this chapter and section with respect to 9all buildings, structures and property owned, operated or controlled by the Commonwealth 10located within such city, town or district.” 11 SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its passage.
