Higgins that the State Retirement Board be authorized to provide certain retirement benefits to Carrie Duff the surviving beneficiary of William Manduca. Public Service. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to the retirement benefits of the surviving beneficiary of William Manduca. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. (a) Notwithstanding section 12 of chapter 32 of the General Laws or any 2other general or special law to the contrary, the Massachusetts State Retirement Board shall 3provide to Carrie Duff, the surviving beneficiary of former Massachusetts Department of 4Corrections employee William Manduca, a lifetime, monthly allowance equal to the amount she 5would receive as if William Manduca had, upon retirement, elected option (d) of subdivision (2) 6of said section 12 of said chapter 32 and nominated Carrie Duff as his sole surviving eligible 7beneficiary. The allowance shall be payable as of the date of William Manduca’s death. 8 (b) Any retirement benefit provided to Carrie Duff pursuant to this act shall be in lieu of, 9and not in addition to, any benefits she may have otherwise received from the Massachusetts 10State Employees Retirement System as William Manduca’s beneficiary.
