[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 2727 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act to study the modernization of retirement systems for future state employees. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. There is hereby established a special commission to study pension reform in 2the commonwealth. Said commission is hereby authorized and directed to conduct an 3investigation into the feasibility of replacing the commonwealth’s defined benefit pension plan 4with a defined contribution plan for future employees. The special commission shall submit a 5report to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, the senate president, and the 6chief justice of the supreme judicial court setting forth the special commission’s findings, along 7with its recommendations and specific legislative proposals, no later than one year after the 8special commission’s appointment. The special commission shall dissolve upon completion of 9its duties and obligations, as indicated by submission of its findings and recommendations.
