| 28 | 28 | | Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of the same, as follows: |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 16 of Chapter 39 of the General Laws or any other |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 2general or special law to the contrary, the committee authorized by town by-law to appoint |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 3members of the Finance Committee may appoint a person to serve as an alternate member of the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 4Finance Committee. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 5 SECTION 2. A person appointed as an alternate member of the Finance Committee may |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 6act as a member of the Committee as set forth in section 16 of chapter 39 of the General Laws |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 7and any other applicable law or by-law, but only in the absence of a regular member of the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 8Committee. |

| 38 | 38 | | 9 SECTION 3. The initial term of the alternate member shall be for 3 years, and thereafter |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 10successors shall be appointed for a term of 3 years. An alternate member may, after a public |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 11hearing if requested, be removed for cause by the appointing authority. A vacancy occurring 2 of 2 |

| 41 | 41 | | 12otherwise than by expiration of a term of an alternate member shall be filled for the remainder of |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | 13the unexpired term in the same manner as the initial appointment. |

| 43 | 43 | | 14 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage. |
