Montigny (by vote of the town) relative to providing for an alternate member of the finance committee in the town of Mattapoisett. Municipalities and Regional Government. [Local Approval Received.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act providing for an alternate member of the town of Mattapoisett finance committee. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 16 of Chapter 39 of the General Laws or any other 2general or special law to the contrary, the committee authorized by town by-law to appoint 3members of the Finance Committee may appoint a person to serve as an alternate member of the 4Finance Committee. 5 SECTION 2. A person appointed as an alternate member of the Finance Committee may 6act as a member of the Committee as set forth in section 16 of chapter 39 of the General Laws 7and any other applicable law or by-law, but only in the absence of a regular member of the 8Committee. 9 SECTION 3. The initial term of the alternate member shall be for 3 years, and thereafter 10successors shall be appointed for a term of 3 years. An alternate member may, after a public 11hearing if requested, be removed for cause by the appointing authority. A vacancy occurring 2 of 2 12otherwise than by expiration of a term of an alternate member shall be filled for the remainder of 13the unexpired term in the same manner as the initial appointment. 14 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
