The committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure to 
whom was referred the joint petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 
3968) of Sarah K. Peake and Julian Cyr (by vote of the town) that the 
town of Chatham be authorized to grant an additional liquor license for the 
sale of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk on the premises in said town, 
reports recommending that the accompanying bill (House, No. 4189) 
ought to pass.

An Act granting an additional liquor license for the sale of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk on 
the premises in the town of Chatham.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. (a) Notwithstanding sections 17 and 17A of chapter 138 of the General 
2Laws, the licensing authority of the town of Chatham may convert 1 seasonal license for the sale 
3of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk on the premises, under section 12 of said chapter 138, 
4currently issued to Pate’s Restaurant located at 1260 Main Street to an annual license for the sale 
5of all alcoholic beverages to be drunk on the premises under said section 12 of said chapter 138 
6to Pate’s Restaurant for use at 1260 Main Street in the town. The license converted under this 
7section shall be subject to all provisions of said chapter 138, except said sections 17 and 17A. 
8 (b) A license converted under this section shall only be exercised in the dining room of a 
9common victualler and such other public rooms or areas as may be deemed reasonable and 
10appropriate by the licensing authority as certified in writing.
11 (c) The licensing authority shall not approve the transfer of the license converted 
12pursuant to this section to any other location, but it may grant the license to a new applicant at 
13the same location if the applicant files with the licensing authority a letter from the department of  2 of 2
14revenue and a letter from the department of unemployment assistance indicating that the license 
15if in good standing with those departments and that all applicable taxes, fees, and contributions 
16have been paid. 
17 (d) If the license converted under this act is cancelled, revoked or no longer in use at the 
18location of original issuance, it shall be returned physically, with all legal rights, privileges and 
19restrictions pertaining thereto, to the licensing authority which may then, within 3 years grant the 
20license to a new applicant at the same location under the same conditions as specified in this act, 
21otherwise such license shall dissolve.
22 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
