By Representative Hamilton of Methuen, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 4510) of 
Ryan M. Hamilton and Estela A. Reyes (with the approval of the mayor and city council) that the 
city of Methuen be authorized to raise the maximum retirement age of special police officers in 
said city to 70 years old. Public Service.  [Local Approval Received.]

An Act authorizing raising the maximum retirement age of special police officers in the city of 
Methuen to 70 years old.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. The mayor of the City of Methuen may, if the mayor deems necessary 
2following the recommendation of the Chief of Police, appoint individuals, who have served as 
3police officers and who are currently certified by Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) 
4Commission, to serve as special police officers for the purpose of performing traffic details. 
5 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding section 1 of chapter 32 of the General Laws or any other 
6general or special law to the contrary, the maximum age for a special police officer appointed in 
7the City of Methuen shall be 70 years of age. 
8 SECTION 3. Special police officers who are between the ages of 65-70 years of age shall 
9only perform traffic details in the City of Methuen. 
10 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon passage.
