Joint Rule 12) of Mark C. Montigny, Antonio F. D. Cabral and Christopher Hendricks that a
pedestrian overpass spanning state Route 18 in the city of New Bedford be designated as the
Andre Lopes Korean War veteran overpass. Transportation.

An Act designating a certain overpass in the city of New Bedford as the Andre Lopes Korean
War Veteran Overpass.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. The pedestrian overpass spanning route 18 in the city of New Bedford,
2constructed pursuant to MBTA contract number K78CN06 as part of the South Coast Rail
3project, in the vicinity of 618 Acushnet Avenue, shall be designated and known as the Andre
4Lopes Korean War Veteran Overpass, in memory of Andre Lopes, who died as a result of
5injuries incurred while a member of the armed forces of the United States during the Korean
6Conflict. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation or its successor shall erect and
7maintain suitable markers bearing that designation in compliance with the standards of the
8department.
9 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
