[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE SENATE, NO. 1571 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act regulating access to the disclosure of certain police reports. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Section 97D of chapter 41 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official Edition, 2is hereby amended by inserting after the second sentence the following sentence:- "If a police 3officer receives a request for such access from an advocate or counselor not specifically 4authorized by the victim to obtain such information, the police department shall make a 5reasonable attempt to notify the victim." 6 Said section 97D, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by adding the following 7paragraph:- 8 In this section, the term "police officer" shall mean a regular police officer or a special 9officer appointed pursuant to section 63 of chapter 22C.
