Rush for legislation relative to the licensure of appraisers. Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure. [SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE SENATE, NO. 240 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to the licensure of appraisers. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Section 8G of chapter 26 of the general laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is 2hereby amended by striking the first paragraph in its entirety and inserting the following new 3paragraph in place thereof:- 4 “There shall be in the division of professional licensure an auto damage appraiser 5licensing board, hereinafter called the board, consisting of seven persons. The governor shall 6appoint two members who shall be affiliated with the auto body repair industry and two 7members who shall be affiliated with insurance companies writing casualty insurance within the 8commonwealth. The attorney general shall appoint one representative of her office and shall 9appoint one additional person, unaffiliated with her office, an auto body shop or an insurance 10company, to represent consumers. The commissioner of the division of professional licensure 2 of 2 11shall appoint one person who shall not be affiliated with either the auto body industry or the 12insurance industry and who shall be the chairman of the board. No member shall serve for more 13than 2 consecutive and complete 3-year terms. As the term of the office of a member expires, a 14successor shall be appointed in like manner for a term of 3 years. A vacancy on the board shall 15be filled within 60 days from the date of the vacancy.”
