An Act amending the charter of the town of Marshfield to make references to the board of
selectmen gender neutral.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Section 1-2 of the charter of the town of Marshfield, which is on file in the
2office of the archivist of the commonwealth as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the
3General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen” and inserting
4in place thereof the following words:- select board.
5 SECTION 2. Section 2-4 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words
6“Board of Selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the
7following words:- select board.
8 SECTION 3. Section 3-1 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words
9“board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
10 SECTION 4. Subsection 3-2-1 of section 3-2 of said charter is hereby amended by
11striking out the caption and inserting in place thereof the following caption:- Select Board. 2 of 4
12 SECTION 5. Said section 3-2 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out
13the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each
14instance, the following words:- select board.
15 SECTION 6. Said section 3-2 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out
16the words “Board of Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select
17board.
18 SECTION 7. Said section 3-2 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out
19the word “selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the
20following words:- select board.
21 SECTION 8. Said section 3-2 of said charter is further hereby amended by striking out
22the word “Selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the
23following words:- select board.
24 SECTION 9. Subsection 4-1-1 of section 4-1 of said charter is hereby amended by
25striking out the words “Board of Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:-
26select board.
27 SECTION 10. Said subsection 4-1-1 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby further
28amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the
29following words:-select board.
30 SECTION 11. Said subsection 4-1-1 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby further
31amended by striking out the word “selectmen’s” and inserting in place thereof the following

33 SECTION 12. Said subsection 4-1-1 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby further
34amended by striking out the word “selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place
35thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
36 SECTION 13. Subsection section 4-1-2 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby
37amended by striking out the words “Board of Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the
38following words:- select board.
39 SECTION 14. Subsection 4-1-3 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby amended by
40striking out the words “Board of Selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof,
41in each instance, the following words:- select board.
42 SECTION 15. Said subsection 4-1-3 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby further
43amended by striking out the word “Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following
44words:- select board.
45 SECTION 16. Subsection 4-1-4 of said section 4-1 of said charter is hereby amended by
46striking out the words “Board of Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:-
47select board.
48 SECTION 17. Section 5-2 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word
49“selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
50 SECTION 18. Section 5-3 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word
51“selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following

53 SECTION 19. Section 5-4 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word
54“selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following

56 SECTION 20. Section 5-5 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words
57“board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
58 SECTION 21. Section 5-7 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word
59“Selectmen”, the first time it appears, and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select
60board.
61 SECTION 22. Said section 5-7 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out
62the word “Selectmen”, the second time it appears, and inserting in place thereof the following
63words:- the select board.
64 SECTION 23. Subsection 8-1-2 of section 8-1 of said charter is hereby amended by
65striking out the word “selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select
66board.
67 SECTION 24. Subsection 8-1-3 of said section 8-1 of said charter is hereby amended by
68striking out the word “Selectmen’s” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select
69board’s.
70 SECTION 25. Said subsection 8-1-3 of said section 8-1 of said charter is hereby further
71amended by striking out the word “selectmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place
72thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
73 SECTION 26. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
