Fernandes (by vote of the town) for legislation to make the charter of the county on Nantucket
gender neutral. Municipalities and Regional Government. [Local approval received.]

An Act making the charter of the county on Nantucket gender neutral.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. The first sentence of section 2.2 of article II of the charter of the county of
2Nantucket is hereby amended by striking out the word “Selectmen,” and inserting in place
3thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board members.
4 SECTION 2. Section 2.2 of said article II of said charter is hereby further amended by
5adding the following clause:-
6 The select board shall have the full role of and all of the powers and authority of a board
7of selectmen under any general or special law and its members and officers shall have the full
8role of and all of the powers and authority of the members and officers of a board of selectmen
9under any general or special law.
10 SECTION 3. The first paragraph of section 2.3 of said article II of said charter is hereby
11amended by striking out the words “Board of Selectmen,” in each instance in which they appear,
12and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board. 2 of 2
13 SECTION 4. Subsection (d) of section 2.8 of said article II of said charter is hereby
14amended by striking out the words “Board of Selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the
15following words:- select board.
16 SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
