The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act providing for the annual election of members of the Spencer East Brookfield Regional School Committee. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 14E of chapter 71 of the General Laws, the towns 2of Spencer and East Brookfield may annually elect members on a municipal election ballot to 3serve on the school committee of the Spencer East Brookfield Regional School District on the 4same date as the annual elections in each town; provided, however, that the election of the school 5committee members shall take place pursuant to the agreement between the towns of Spencer 6and East Brookfield with respect to a regional school district dated April 1, 2019; provided 7further, that if the municipal elections in the towns of Spencer and East Brookfield do not occur 8on the same date, the election of the school committee members shall take place at the next 9biennial state election or next municipal elections in the towns of East Brookfield and Spencer 10that are held on the same date, whichever occurs first. 11 SECTION 2. At the first election of the school committee members occurring following 12the passage of this act at a biennial state election or municipal election in the towns of East 2 of 2 13Brookfield and Spencer that are held on the same date, the term of any elected member shall 14cease upon the election of members in accordance with subsection C of section II of the 15agreement between the towns of Spencer and East Brookfield with respect to a regional school 16district dated April 1, 2019. 17 SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
