Jones, Jr. and others relative to authorizing the courts of the Commonwealth to establish a system of juvenile restitution. The Judiciary. [SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 1587 OF 2023-2024.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Fourth General Court (2025-2026) _______________ An Act relative to juvenile restitution. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby 2amended by inserting after section 62 the following section:- 3 Section 62A. The court shall make all reasonable efforts to ensure that restitution is made 4to the victim of a juvenile offender. The court shall order that the juvenile be required to repair, 5replace or otherwise make restitution for damage or loss caused by his wrongful act and may 6impose fines in limited amounts. Restitution shall be made a condition of release, placement, or 7parole by the juvenile court. In cases where the court determines it is appropriate, the court may 8order the juvenile to make restitution directly to the court in the form of financial payments, 9which shall then be turned over to the victim of the offense. The court may issue such orders as 2 of 2 10are necessary for the collection of restitution, including garnishments, wage withholdings, and 11executions.
