An Act relative to fentanyl testing.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Chapter 111 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby 
2amended by inserting after 244 the following new section:- 
3 SECTION 245. Fentanyl testing 
4 (a) If a person is treated at a general acute care hospital and the hospital conducts a urine 
5drug screening to assist in diagnosing the patient’s condition, the hospital shall include testing 
6for fentanyl in the urine drug screening. 
7 (b) As used in this section, “urine drug screening” means a chemical analysis intended to 
8test patients for the presence of multiple drugs, including cocaine, opioids, and phencyclidine. 
9 (c) The department of public health is hereby authorized and directed to promulgate or 
10revise any regulations necessary to implement the testing requirements outlined above.
