An Act providing for a study to be conducted on the cost feasibility of implementing a ferry 
service to Long Island in Boston Harbor.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 There shall be a special commission established pursuant to section 2A of chapter 4 of 
2the General Laws to study and investigate the feasibility and efficacy of establishing, operating 
3and administering a ferry service to Long Island. The commission shall consist of 2 members of 
4the house of representatives, 1 of whom shall be nominated by the minority leader, 2 members of 
5the senate, 1 of whom shall be nominated by the minority leader, the secretary of transportation 
6or a designee, the commissioner of public safety or a designee and 5 members to be appointed by 
7the governor, 1 of whom shall be nominated by the mayor of Boston and 1 of whom shall be 
8nominated by the mayor of Quincy. The members of the commission may elect a member to 
9serve as chair. As part of its study and investigation, the commission shall analyze practices and  2 of 2
10methods for current ferry services provided by or operated in the commonwealth. The 
11commission shall identify and project the potential cost for establishing, operating and 
12administering a new ferry route to Long Island and make recommendations for the 
13implementation thereof.
