Massachusetts Department of Transportation vehicles to use red lights for safety.

An Act allowing MassDOT vehicles to use red lights for safety.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Section 7E of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, 
2is hereby amended by striking out the second paragraph in its entirety and replacing it with the 
3following:-
4 A vehicle owned or operated by a forest warden, deputy forest warden, a chief or deputy 
5chief of a municipal fire department, a chaplain of a municipal fire department, a member of a 
6fire department of a town or a call member of a fire department or a member or a call member of 
7an emergency medical service or full-time employees or contract employees employed by or 
8under contract with the department of fire services or any vehicles owned, operated, or under 
9contract by the Department of Transportation may have mounted thereon flashing, rotating or 
10oscillating red lights. Unless the vehicle is owned, operated, or under contract by the Department 
11of Transportation, such lights shall only be displayed when such owner or operator is proceeding  2 of 2
12to a fire or in response to an alarm and when the official duty of such owner or operator requires 
13him to proceed to said fire or to respond to said alarm, and at no other time.
