No. 4024 By Representative Ayers of Quincy, a petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 4024) of Bruce J. Ayers that the Department of Public Health be authorized to study mold and mold spores in multi-unit dwellings. Public Health. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Fourth General Court (2025-2026) _______________ An Act relative to a study to determine standards of mold levels in multi-unit dwellings. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 (a) The department of public health shall study mold and mold spores in multi-unit 2dwellings in the commonwealth. The study shall include, but not be limited to: (i) the possibility 3of completely eliminating mold and mold spores in multi-unit dwellings; (ii) focusing on the 4cause and presence of excess moisture that allows mold to grow in multi-unit dwellings; and (iii) 5analysis of other states and their laws that establishes standards on what amount or type of mold 6is dangerous. 7 (b) The department shall hold at least 1 public hearing as part of its study. 8 (c) The department shall submit a report detailing the results of the study, along with 9recommendations and any proposed standards and legislation necessary to carry out its 10recommendations, to the: (i) the joint committee on public health; (ii) the house and senate 11committees on ways and means; and (iii) clerks of the house of representatives and senate not 12later than December 31, 2026.
