AN ACT concerning 
 
Somerset County – Local Officials – Salaries and Daily Allowance for Traveling 
Expenses  
 
FOR the purpose of altering the salaries of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the State’s 
Attorney for Somerset County, the County Commissioners of Somerset County, the 
President of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, members of the County 
Roads Board of Somerset County, and the President of the County Roads Board of 
Somerset County and the salaries and daily allowance for certain expenses of the 
Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County and associate judges of the 
Orphans’ Court for Somerset County; and generally relating to the salaries and daily 
allowance for traveling expenses of Somerset County public officials.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 
 
Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 
 
2–333. 
 
 (b) (1) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive an annual salary of not 
less than [$75,000] $85,000. 
 
Article – Criminal Procedure 
 
15–420. 
 
 (a) This section applies only in Somerset County. 
 
 (b) The State’s Attorney’s salary is [$113,066] 80% OF THE SALARY OF A J UDGE 
OF THE DISTRICT COURT OF MARYLAND. 
 
Article – Estates and Trusts 
 
2–101. 
 
 In the estates of decedents law, the word “court” means the orphans’ court in a

2–108. 
 
 (s) (1) The Chief Judge of the Court for Somerset County shall receive an 
annual salary of [$3,800] $5,200 to be paid quarterly. 
 
 (2) Each of the associate judges of the Court for Somerset County shall 
receive an annual salary of [$3,400] $4,800 to be paid quarterly. 
 
 (3) Each judge shall also receive a daily allowance for traveling expenses 
of [$34.50] $55 for every day’s attendance on the sessions of the Court. 
 
Article 20 – Somerset County 
 
2–101. 
 
 (a) There are 5 County Commissioners for Somerset County, who hold office for 4 
years and until their successors are elected and qualified.  
 
 (b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, each 
Commissioner shall receive an annual salary of [$8,500] $10,000.  
 
 (2) The President of the County Commissioners shall receive an annual 
salary of [$9,500] $11,000.  
 
9–104. 
 
 (a) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the members of 
the County Roads Board shall each receive, in addition to their compensation as County 
Commissioners, a salary of [$7,500] $10,000 annually as a member of the County Roads 
Board.  
 
 (2) The President of the County Roads Board shall receive, in addition to 
compensation received as President of the County Commissioners, an annual salary of 
[$8,500] $11,000. 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, § 35 
of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary 
or compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the State’s Attorney for Somerset 
County, the Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, an associate judge of 
the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, the County Commissioners of Somerset County, 
the President of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, a member of the County 
Roads Board of Somerset County, or the President of the County Roads Board of Somerset 
County while serving in a term of office beginning before the effective date of this Act, but 
the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset 
County, the State’s Attorney for Somerset County, the Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court  Ch. 614 	2022 LAWS OF MARYLAND

for Somerset County, an associate judge of the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, the 
County Commissioners of Somerset County, the President of the County Commissioners of 
Somerset County, a member of the County Roads Board of Somerset County, or the 
President of the County Roads Board of Somerset County shall take effect at the beginning 
of the next following term of office. This limitation does not apply to an individual appointed 
or elected after the effective date of this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 
 
 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That t his Act shall take effect 
October 1, 2022.
