[Brackets] indicate matter deleted from existing law. *hb1159* HOUSE BILL 1159 J2 3lr2394 By: Delegate Cullison Introduced and read first time: February 10, 2023 Assigned to: Health and Government Operations A BILL ENTITLED AN ACT concerning 1 State Board of Dental Examiners – University of Maryland School of Dentistry 2 Faculty – Qualifying for Examination 3 FOR the purpose of altering the circumstances under which a dentist who is a faculty 4 member at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and trained at a foreign 5 dental school must be qualified by the State Board of Dental Examiners to take an 6 examination offered by the American Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., or its 7 successor organization; and generally relating to the qualifying of faculty members 8 at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry by the State Board of Dental 9 Examiners for examination. 10 BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 11 Article – Health Occupations 12 Section 4–306.1 13 Annotated Code of Maryland 14 (2021 Replacement Volume and 2022 Supplement) 15 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 16 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 17 Article – Health Occupations 18 4–306.1. 19 (a) A dentist who is a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of 20 Dentistry and was trained at a foreign dental school shall be qualified by the Board to take 21 an examination offered by ADEX, as defined in § 4–306 of this subtitle, if the applicant: 22 (1) [Completes training in a dental specialty recognized by the Board; 23 2 HOUSE BILL 1159 (2) Is board certified in a dental specialty recognized by the Board; 1 (3)] At the time the application is made, is a full–time faculty member at 2 the University of Maryland School of Dentistry who has completed at least 7 consecutive 3 years as a full–time faculty member; and 4 [(4)] (2) Submits to the Board a written letter of support from the 5 University of Maryland School of Dentistry stating that the school supports the applicant 6 to take the ADEX examination. 7 (b) If the dentist receives a passing score on the ADEX examination, the dentist 8 may apply for a general license to practice dentistry. 9 (c) A dentist who applied for a general license to practice dentistry under 10 subsection (b) of this section and was issued a general license shall surrender the license if 11 the dentist violates any provision of this title or any regulation adopted by the Board. 12 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 13 October 1, 2023. 14
