AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Business Occupations and Professions – Professional Engineers – Examination 2 
 
FOR the purpose of requiring an applicant for a license to practice engineering to pass an 3 
examination in the fundamentals of engineering given by the State Board for 4 
Professional Engineers before passing the required examination in the principles 5 
and practice of engineering; and generally relating to the licensure requirements for 6 
professional engineers. 7

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 18 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 19 
 
Article – Business Occupations and Professions 20 
 
14–305. 21 
 
 (a) In addition to the other qualifications for a license set forth in this subtitle, an 22 
applicant shall qualify under this section by meeting the educational and experience 23 
requirements set forth in subsection (b), (c), or (d) of this section. 24

 (d) (1) An applicant qualifies under this section if the applicant: 1 
 
 (i) subject to paragraph (2) of this subsection, has at least 12 years 2 
of work experience in engineering that is satisfactory to the Board and that indicates to the 3 
Board that the applicant may be competent to practice engineering; and 4 
 
 (ii) 1. has passed the examination IN THE FUNDAMENTALS OF 5 
ENGINEERING GIVEN BY THE BOARD UNDER THIS SUBT ITLE; AND 6 
 
 2. AFTER PASSING THE EX	AMINATION IN THE 7 
FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGI NEERING, HAS PASSED THE EXAMINATION in the principles 8 
and practice of engineering given by the Board under this subtitle. 9 
 
 (2) If an applicant has completed 1 or more years of a college or university 10 
curriculum in engineering that the Board approves, it may allow, for each of those years, a 11 
1–year credit towards the experience requirement of paragraph (1)(i) of this subsection. 12 
 
 (3) If an applicant has completed 1 or more years of a college or university 13 
curriculum in engineering that has not been approved by the Board, the Board may allow, 14 
for each of those years, a credit of up to 6 months towards the experience requirement under 15 
paragraph (1)(i) of this subsection. 16 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 17 
October 1, 2025. 18
