| 4 | 4 | | 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: |

| 5 | 5 | | 1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS. |

| 6 | 6 | | 1.6 (a) $75,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $75,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1.7the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for grants to the Minnesota Turf Seed |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1.8Council for basic and applied research on: (1) the improved production of forage and turf |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1.9seed related to new and improved varieties; and (2) native plants, including plant breeding, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1.10nutrient management, pest management, disease management, yield, and viability. The |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1.11Minnesota Turf Seed Council may subcontract with a qualified third party to conduct some |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1.12or all basic or applied research. Any unencumbered balance does not cancel at the end of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1.13the first year and is available for the second year. |

| 14 | 14 | | 1.14 (b) The Minnesota Turf Seed Council must prepare a report outlining the use of grant |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1.15money and related accomplishments. No later than January 15, 2027, the council must |

| 16 | 16 | | 1.16submit the report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1.17and divisions with jurisdiction over agriculture finance and policy. |
