1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to agriculture; requiring a report; appropriating money for grants to the
1.3 Minnesota Turf Seed Council.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.
1.6 (a) $75,000 in fiscal year 2026 and $75,000 in fiscal year 2027 are appropriated from
1.7the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for grants to the Minnesota Turf Seed
1.8Council for basic and applied research on: (1) the improved production of forage and turf
1.9seed related to new and improved varieties; and (2) native plants, including plant breeding,
1.10nutrient management, pest management, disease management, yield, and viability. The
1.11Minnesota Turf Seed Council may subcontract with a qualified third party to conduct some
1.12or all basic or applied research. Any unencumbered balance does not cancel at the end of
1.13the first year and is available for the second year.
1.14 (b) The Minnesota Turf Seed Council must prepare a report outlining the use of grant
1.15money and related accomplishments. No later than January 15, 2027, the council must
1.16submit the report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees
1.17and divisions with jurisdiction over agriculture finance and policy.
