1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to early education; requiring the development and dissemination of 1.3 informational materials on type 1 diabetes for parents of children in preschool 1.4 programs; proposing coding for new law as Minnesota Statutes, chapter 142D. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. [142D.085] PARENT NOTIFICATION; TYPE 1 DIABETES 1.7INFORMATION. 1.8 (a) The commissioner, in consultation with the commissioners of health and education, 1.9must develop informational materials on type 1 diabetes for parents of children in preschool 1.10programs. By October 1, 2025, the materials must be posted on the department's website. 1.11 (b) Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, school districts and charter schools that 1.12offer preschool programs must provide the materials developed under this section to parents 1.13with children in any preschool program. School districts and charter schools must disseminate 1.14the materials at least once each school year. 1.15 (c) The informational materials developed under this section must include, but are not 1.16limited to: 1.17 (1) a description of type 1 diabetes; 1.18 (2) a description of the risk factors and warning signs associated with type 1 diabetes; 1.19 (3) a recommendation for parents of children displaying warning signs associated with 1.20type 1 diabetes to consult with the child's primary care provider to determine if immediate 1.21screening for type 1 diabetes is appropriate; 1Section 1.
