1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to state government; modifying a statute governing the payment of certain 1.3 claims against the state; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 3.732, 1.4 subdivision 2. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 3.732, subdivision 2, is amended to read: 1.7 Subd. 2.Claims of $7,000 or less.The head of each department or agency of the state, 1.8or a designee, acting on behalf of the state, shall must attempt to determine, adjust and settle, 1.9at any time, any claim for money damages of $7,000 or less against the state for injury to 1.10or loss of property or personal injury or death caused by an act or omission of any employee 1.11of the state while acting within the scope of office or employment, under circumstances 1.12where the state, if a private person, would be liable to the claimant. The settlement is final 1.13and conclusive on all officers of the state, unless procured by fraud. The acceptance by the 1.14claimant of a settlement is final and conclusive on the claimant and constitutes a complete 1.15release of any claim against the state and the employee of the state whose act or omission 1.16gave rise to the claim, by reason of the same subject matter. 1Section 1.
