| 4 | 4 | | 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: |

| 5 | 5 | | 1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 179A.03, subdivision 7, is amended to read: |

| 6 | 6 | | 1.6 Subd. 7.Essential employee."Essential employee" means firefighters, peace officers |

| 7 | 7 | | 1.7subject to licensure under sections 626.84 to 626.863, 911 system and police and fire |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 1.8department public safety dispatchers, medical examiners, coroners, medical death technicians, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1.9medical death investigators, guards at correctional facilities, confidential employees, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1.10supervisory employees, assistant county attorneys, assistant city attorneys, principals, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1.11assistant principals. However, for state employees, "essential employee" means all employees |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1.12in law enforcement, public safety radio communications operators, health care professionals, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1.13correctional guards, professional engineering, and supervisory collective bargaining units, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1.14irrespective of severance, and no other employees. For University of Minnesota employees, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1.15"essential employee" means all employees in law enforcement, nursing professional and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1.16supervisory units, irrespective of severance, and no other employees. "Firefighters" means |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1.17salaried employees of a fire department whose duties include, directly or indirectly, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1.18controlling, extinguishing, preventing, detecting, or investigating fires. Employees for whom |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1.19the state court administrator is the negotiating employer are not essential employees. For |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 1.20Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. employees, "essential employees" means all employees. |
