                            1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to labor; expanding list of essential employees; amending Minnesota​
1.3 Statutes 2024, section 179A.03, subdivision 7.​
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 179A.03, subdivision 7, is amended to read:​
1.6 Subd. 7.Essential employee."Essential employee" means firefighters, peace officers​
1.7subject to licensure under sections 626.84 to 626.863, 911 system and police and fire​
1.8department public safety dispatchers, medical examiners, coroners, medical death technicians,​
1.9medical death investigators, guards at correctional facilities, confidential employees,​
1.10supervisory employees, assistant county attorneys, assistant city attorneys, principals, and​
1.11assistant principals. However, for state employees, "essential employee" means all employees​
1.12in law enforcement, public safety radio communications operators, health care professionals,​
1.13correctional guards, professional engineering, and supervisory collective bargaining units,​
1.14irrespective of severance, and no other employees. For University of Minnesota employees,​
1.15"essential employee" means all employees in law enforcement, nursing professional and​
1.16supervisory units, irrespective of severance, and no other employees. "Firefighters" means​
1.17salaried employees of a fire department whose duties include, directly or indirectly,​
1.18controlling, extinguishing, preventing, detecting, or investigating fires. Employees for whom​
1.19the state court administrator is the negotiating employer are not essential employees. For​
1.20Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. employees, "essential employees" means all employees.​
