66 1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
77 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.2231, subdivision 2, is amended to read:​
88 1.8 Subd. 2.Firefighters and emergency medical personnel.Whoever assaults any commits​
99 1.9either of the following persons and inflicts demonstrable bodily harm acts against a member​
1010 1.10of a municipal or volunteer fire department or emergency medical services personnel unit​
1111 1.11in the performance of the member's duties or against a physician, nurse, or other person​
1212 1.12providing health care services is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to imprisonment​
1313 1.13for not more than two years or to payment of a fine of not more than $4,000, or both:​
1414 1.14 (1) a member of a municipal or volunteer fire department or emergency medical services​
1515 1.15personnel unit in the performance of the member's duties assaults the person and inflicts​
1616 1.16demonstrable bodily harm; or​
1717 1.17 (2) a physician, nurse, or other person providing health care services in a hospital​
1818 1.18emergency department intentionally throws or otherwise transfers bodily fluids or feces at​
1919 1.19or onto the person.​
2020 1.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2025, and applies to crimes​
