                            1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to higher education; prohibiting legacy admissions; proposing coding for​
1.3 new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 135A.​
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.5 Section 1. [135A.063] ADMISSIONS APPLICATIONS; LEGACY ADMISSIONS​
1.6AND ADMISSIONS BASED ON DONOR STATUS PROHIBITED.​
1.7 (a) For the purpose of this section, "legacy status" means the familial relationship of an​
1.8individual applying for admission to an institution of higher education to an alumnus of the​
1.9institution.​
1.10 (b) No public or private institution of higher education shall provide any manner of​
1.11preferential treatment in the admissions decision to any student applicant on the basis of a​
1.12student's legacy status or a student's familial relationship to any donor to such institution.​
1.13The Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota is requested to comply with this​
1.14section.​
