1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to higher education; prohibiting legacy admissions; proposing coding for 1.3 new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 135A. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. [135A.063] ADMISSIONS APPLICATIONS; LEGACY ADMISSIONS 1.6AND ADMISSIONS BASED ON DONOR STATUS PROHIBITED. 1.7 (a) For the purpose of this section, "legacy status" means the familial relationship of an 1.8individual applying for admission to an institution of higher education to an alumnus of the 1.9institution. 1.10 (b) No public or private institution of higher education shall provide any manner of 1.11preferential treatment in the admissions decision to any student applicant on the basis of a 1.12student's legacy status or a student's familial relationship to any donor to such institution. 1.13The Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota is requested to comply with this 1.14section. 1Section 1.
