1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to state government; allowing ranking minority members of standing 1.3 legislative committees to request fiscal notes; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, 1.4 section 3.98, subdivisions 1, 3. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 3.98, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.7 Subdivision 1.Preparation; duties.(a) The head or chief administrative officer of each 1.8department or agency of the state government, including the supreme court, shall prepare 1.9a fiscal note consistent with the standards and procedures adopted under section 3.8853, at 1.10the request of the chair or ranking minority member of the standing committee to which a 1.11bill has been referred, or the chair or ranking minority member of the house of representatives 1.12Ways and Means Committee, or the chair or ranking minority member of the senate 1.13Committee on Finance. 1.14 (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "supreme court" includes all agencies, committees, 1.15and commissions supervised or appointed by the state supreme court or the state court 1.16administrator. 1.17 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 3.98, subdivision 3, is amended to read: 1.18 Subd. 3.Distribution.A copy of the fiscal note shall be delivered to the chair or ranking 1.19minority member of the Ways and Means Committee of the house of representatives, the 1.20chair or ranking minority member of the Finance Committee of the senate, the chair and 1.21ranking minority member of the standing committee to which the bill has been referred, to 1.22the chief author of the bill, and to the commissioner of management and budget. 1Sec. 2.
