55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 169.71, subdivision 4a, is amended to read:​
77 1.7 Subd. 4a.Glazing material; exceptions.(a) Subdivision 4 does not apply to glazing​
88 1.8materials that:​
99 1.9 (1) have not been modified since the original installation, nor to original replacement​
1010 1.10windows and windshields, that were originally installed or replaced in conformity with​
1111 1.11Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205;​
1212 1.12 (2) are required to satisfy prescription or medical needs, provided:​
1313 1.13 (i) the vehicle's driver or a passenger possesses a prescription or a physician's statement​
1414 1.14of medical need;​
1515 1.15 (ii) the prescription specifically states whether the medical need is a temporary or​
1616 1.16permanent condition;​
1717 1.17 (iii) the prescription or statement specifically states the minimum percentage that light​
1818 1.18transmittance may be reduced to satisfy the prescription or medical needs of the patient;​
1919 1.19and​
2020 1.20 (iii) (iv) the prescription or statement contains an expiration date provided by the​
2121 1.21physician, which must be no more than two years after the date the prescription or statement​

3535 2.6as defined in section 168.002, subdivision 40;​
3636 2.7 (iii) the side and rear windows of a vehicle used to transport human remains by a funeral​
3737 2.8establishment holding a license under section 149A.50;​
3838 2.9 (iv) the side and rear windows of a limousine as defined in section 168.002, subdivision​
3939 2.1015; or​
4040 2.11 (v) the rear and side windows of a police vehicle.​
4141 2.12 (b) For the purposes of paragraph (a), clause (2), a driver of a vehicle may rely on a​
4242 2.13prescription or physician's statement of medical need issued to a person not present in the​
4343 2.14vehicle if:​
4444 2.15 (1) the prescription or physician's statement of medical need is issued to (i) the driver's​
4545 2.16parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or spouse, or (ii) a person for whom the​
4646 2.17driver is a personal care attendant;​
4747 2.18 (2) the prescription or physician's statement of medical need specifies the make, model,​
4848 2.19and license plate of one or two vehicles that will have tinted windows; and​
4949 2.20 (3) the driver is in possession of the prescription or physician's statement of medical​
5050 2.21need.​
5151 2.22 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective July 1, 2025, and applies to prescriptions​
5252 2.23issued on or after that date.​
