5 | 5 | | 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: |

6 | 6 | | 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 121A.23, subdivision 1, is amended to read: |

7 | 7 | | 1.7 Subdivision 1.Sexually transmitted infections and diseases program.The |
---|
8 | 8 | | 1.8commissioner of education, in consultation with the commissioner of health, shall assist |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1.9districts in developing and implementing a program to prevent and reduce the risk of sexually |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1.10transmitted infections and diseases, including but not exclusive to human immune deficiency |
---|
11 | 11 | | 1.11virus and human papilloma virus. Each district must have a program that includes at least: |
---|
12 | 12 | | 1.12 (1) planning materials, guidelines, and other technically medically accurate and updated |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1.13information; |
---|
14 | 14 | | 1.14 (2) a comprehensive, technically medically accurate, and updated curriculum that includes |
---|
15 | 15 | | 1.15helping students to abstain from sexual activity until marriage and gain knowledge of other |
---|
16 | 16 | | 1.16methods of preventing sexually transmitted infections, and is inclusive of all students |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1.17regardless of their protected class status; |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1.18 (3) cooperation and coordination among districts and SCs; |
---|
19 | 19 | | 1.19 (4) a targeting of adolescents, especially those who may be at high risk of contracting |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1.20sexually transmitted infections and diseases, for prevention efforts; |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1.21 (5) involvement of parents and other community members; |
---|
22 | 22 | | 1.22 (6) in-service training for appropriate district staff and school board members; |

43 | 43 | | 2.13in the region serving that district to develop or implement the program. |
