1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to education policy; modifying requirements for the sexually transmitted 1.3 infections and diseases program; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 1.4 121A.23, subdivision 1. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 121A.23, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.7 Subdivision 1.Sexually transmitted infections and diseases program.The 1.8commissioner of education, in consultation with the commissioner of health, shall assist 1.9districts in developing and implementing a program to prevent and reduce the risk of sexually 1.10transmitted infections and diseases, including but not exclusive to human immune deficiency 1.11virus and human papilloma virus. Each district must have a program that includes at least: 1.12 (1) planning materials, guidelines, and other technically medically accurate and updated 1.13information; 1.14 (2) a comprehensive, technically medically accurate, and updated curriculum that includes 1.15helping students to abstain from sexual activity until marriage and gain knowledge of other 1.16methods of preventing sexually transmitted infections, and is inclusive of all students 1.17regardless of their protected class status; 1.18 (3) cooperation and coordination among districts and SCs; 1.19 (4) a targeting of adolescents, especially those who may be at high risk of contracting 1.20sexually transmitted infections and diseases, for prevention efforts; 1.21 (5) involvement of parents and other community members; 1.22 (6) in-service training for appropriate district staff and school board members; 1Section 1. 25-02896 as introduced01/30/25 REVISOR CR/EN SENATE STATE OF MINNESOTA S.F.
