6 | 6 | | 1.6 Section 1. [204B.50] RANKED-CHOICE VOTING; PROHIBITION. |

7 | 7 | | 1.7 (a) The following political subdivisions may not adopt or enforce in any manner a rule, |
---|
8 | 8 | | 1.8resolution, charter provision, or ordinance establishing ranked-choice voting as a method |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1.9of voting, or any voting method similar to ranked-choice voting, for local offices within the |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1.10political subdivision: |

11 | 11 | | 1.11 (1) home rule charter or statutory cities; |
---|
12 | 12 | | 1.12 (2) counties; |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1.13 (3) townships; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | 1.14 (4) school districts. |

15 | 15 | | 1.15 (b) For purposes of this section, "ranked-choice voting" means any election method in |

16 | 16 | | 1.16which a voter ranks or assigns a numerical value to candidates for an office in order of the |

17 | 17 | | 1.17voter's preference. |

18 | 18 | | 1.18 (c) Any rule, resolution, charter provision, or ordinance inconsistent with this section is |

20 | 20 | | 1.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment and |

21 | 21 | | 1.21applies to elections on or after that date. |
