55 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
66 1.6 Section 1. [204B.50] RANKED-CHOICE VOTING; PROHIBITION.​
77 1.7 (a) The following political subdivisions may not adopt or enforce in any manner a rule,​
88 1.8resolution, charter provision, or ordinance establishing ranked-choice voting as a method​
99 1.9of voting, or any voting method similar to ranked-choice voting, for local offices within the​
1010 1.10political subdivision:​
1111 1.11 (1) home rule charter or statutory cities;​
1212 1.12 (2) counties;​
1313 1.13 (3) townships; and​
1414 1.14 (4) school districts.​
1515 1.15 (b) For purposes of this section, "ranked-choice voting" means any election method in​
1616 1.16which a voter ranks or assigns a numerical value to candidates for an office in order of the​
1717 1.17voter's preference.​
1818 1.18 (c) Any rule, resolution, charter provision, or ordinance inconsistent with this section is​
1919 1.19void.​
2020 1.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment and​
2121 1.21applies to elections on or after that date.​
