                            1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to elections; prohibiting political subdivisions from establishing or​
1.3 enforcing ranked-choice voting; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota​
1.4 Statutes, chapter 204B.​
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.6 Section 1. [204B.50] RANKED-CHOICE VOTING; PROHIBITION.​
1.7 (a) The following political subdivisions may not adopt or enforce in any manner a rule,​
1.8resolution, charter provision, or ordinance establishing ranked-choice voting as a method​
1.9of voting, or any voting method similar to ranked-choice voting, for local offices within the​
1.10political subdivision:​
1.11 (1) home rule charter or statutory cities;​
1.12 (2) counties;​
1.13 (3) townships; and​
1.14 (4) school districts.​
1.15 (b) For purposes of this section, "ranked-choice voting" means any election method in​
1.16which a voter ranks or assigns a numerical value to candidates for an office in order of the​
1.17voter's preference.​
1.18 (c) Any rule, resolution, charter provision, or ordinance inconsistent with this section is​
1.19void.​
1.20 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment and​
1.21applies to elections on or after that date.​
