Beginninginthe2026-27schoolyear,thisbillrequiresthatall
schools,public,private,parochial,orparish,conductahearing
screeningforanystudentenrolledforthefirsttimein
kindergartenor1stgrade.
SchoolsmustprovidenoticetoparentsbeforeAugust1stofeach
schoolyearandhearingscreeningsmustoccurbeforeNovember1st.
Ifhearingtestsrevealaneedforspecialeducationservices
additionalassessmentswillbeconducted. Parentsmaypresenta
certificatebyalicensedphysicianinplaceoftherequired
hearingtest.
ThebillrequirestheDepartmentofElementaryandSecondary
EducationinconsultationwiththeDepartmentofHealthandSenior
Servicestodevelopamodelhearingscreeningprogramandschools
mustadoptoradaptsuchhearingscreeningprogrampolicy.
