1010 WHEREAS,July2025marksthe30thanniversaryoftheSrebrenicagenocide,oneof
1111 2thedarkestchaptersinmodernEuropeanhistory,wheremorethan8,000Bosniakmenand
1212 3boysweresystematicallyexecutedbyBosnianSerbforcesinandaroundthetownof
1313 4SrebrenicainBosniaandHerzegovina;and

1515 6 WHEREAS,theInternationalCriminalTribunalfortheformerYugoslavia(ICTY)
1616 7andtheInternationalCourtofJustice(ICJ)havebothrecognizedtheatrocitiescommittedin
1717 8Srebrenicaasgenocide,acrimeagainsthumanitythatdeeplyscarsthecollectiveconscience
1818 9oftheglobalcommunity;and

2020 11 WHEREAS,in2005,theUnitedStatesCongressadoptedHouseResolution199,
2121 12officiallyrecognizingtheSrebrenicamassacreasgenocideandreaffirmingthecommitment
2222 13oftheUnitedStatestotheprinciplesofjustice,accountability,andreconciliation;and

2424 15 WHEREAS,severalU.S.states,includingMichiganandIllinois,havepassed
2525 16resolutionscommemoratingtheSrebrenicagenocideandestablishingofficialdaysof
2626 17remembrance,reflectingabroad,nationwiderecognitionofthisatrocity;and

2828 19 WHEREAS,thestateofMissouriishometooneofthelargestBosnianpopulations
2929 20outsideofBosniaandHerzegovina,withavibrantcommunitythathasgreatlyenrichedthe

3232 24educatingthepublicabouttheeventsinSrebrenicaandfosteringdialoguearoundthe

4242 34Srebrenicagenocide,honoringthememoryofthosewhoperishedandstandinginsolidarity

4646 38"SrebrenicaGenocideRemembranceDay"inMissouriinrecognitionoftheprofoundloss
4747 39andsufferingenduredbythevictimsandtheirfamilies,andasareminderoftheimportance
4848 40ofpreventingsuchatrocitiesinthefuture;and
