BeitenactedbytheGeneralAssemblyofthestateofMissouri,asfollows: WHEREAS,July2025marksthe30thanniversaryoftheSrebrenicagenocide,oneof 2thedarkestchaptersinmodernEuropeanhistory,wheremorethan8,000Bosniakmenand 3boysweresystematicallyexecutedbyBosnianSerbforcesinandaroundthetownof 4SrebrenicainBosniaandHerzegovina;and 5 6 WHEREAS,theInternationalCriminalTribunalfortheformerYugoslavia(ICTY) 7andtheInternationalCourtofJustice(ICJ)havebothrecognizedtheatrocitiescommittedin 8Srebrenicaasgenocide,acrimeagainsthumanitythatdeeplyscarsthecollectiveconscience 9oftheglobalcommunity;and 10 11 WHEREAS,in2005,theUnitedStatesCongressadoptedHouseResolution199, 12officiallyrecognizingtheSrebrenicamassacreasgenocideandreaffirmingthecommitment 13oftheUnitedStatestotheprinciplesofjustice,accountability,andreconciliation;and 14 15 WHEREAS,severalU.S.states,includingMichiganandIllinois,havepassed 16resolutionscommemoratingtheSrebrenicagenocideandestablishingofficialdaysof 17remembrance,reflectingabroad,nationwiderecognitionofthisatrocity;and 18 19 WHEREAS,thestateofMissouriishometooneofthelargestBosnianpopulations 20outsideofBosniaandHerzegovina,withavibrantcommunitythathasgreatlyenrichedthe 21cultural,social,andeconomicfabricofourstate;and 22 23 WHEREAS,theMissouriBosniancommunityhasplayedasignificantrolein 24educatingthepublicabouttheeventsinSrebrenicaandfosteringdialoguearoundthe 25importanceofremembrance,justice,andreconciliation;and 26 27 WHEREAS,itisthemoraldutyofthepeopleofMissouriandthebroaderUnited 28StatestorememberthevictimsoftheSrebrenicagenocide,tohonorthesurvivors,andto 29committotheprinciplesofhumandignity,justice,andpeaceforall: 30 31 NOWTHEREFORE BEITRESOLVEDthatthemembersoftheHouseof 32RepresentativesoftheOneHundredThirdGeneralAssembly,FirstRegularSession,the 33Senateconcurringtherein,herebysolemnlycommemoratethe30thanniversaryofthe 34Srebrenicagenocide,honoringthememoryofthosewhoperishedandstandinginsolidarity 35withthesurvivorsandthefamiliesofthevictims;and 36 37 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthatJuly11,2025,shallbedesignatedas 38"SrebrenicaGenocideRemembranceDay"inMissouriinrecognitionoftheprofoundloss 39andsufferingenduredbythevictimsandtheirfamilies,andasareminderoftheimportance 40ofpreventingsuchatrocitiesinthefuture;and 41 42 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthattheMissouriGeneralAssemblyrecognizesthe 43contributionsoftheBosniancommunityinMissouri,particularlytheireffortsinpromoting 44awarenessandunderstandingoftheSrebrenicagenocide,andencouragescontinued 45educationalinitiativestoensurethatfuturegenerationslearnfromthepast;and 46 47 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthattheMissouriGeneralAssemblyreaffirmsits 48commitmenttoupholdingtheprinciplesofhumanrights,justice,andthepreventionoffuture 49genocides,andcallsuponallMissourianstojoinintheseefforts;and 50 51 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthattheMissouriGeneralAssemblystandsin 52solidaritywithotherstatesandtheU.S.CongressinrecognizingtheSrebrenicagenocide, 53underscoringMissouri’scommitmenttohumanrightsandinternationaljustice;and 54 55 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthattheChiefClerkoftheHouseofRepresentatives 56beinstructedtoprepareaproperlyinscribedcopyofthisresolutionforPresidentofthe 57UnitedStates,theUnitedStatesSecretaryofState,theAmbassadorofBosniaand 58HerzegovinatotheUnitedStates,theleadersoftheBosniancommunityinMissouri,andthe HCR10 2 59leadersofotherstatesthathavepassedsimilarresolutions,asanexpressionofourshared 60commitmenttoremembranceandjustice;and 61 62 BEITFURTHERRESOLVEDthatthisresolutionbesenttotheGovernorforhis 63approvalorrejectionpursuanttotheMissouriConstitution. ✔ HCR10 3
