| 11 | 11 | | Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows: |

| 12 | 12 | | Section A. Section 174.23 1, RSMo, is repealed and one new 1 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 174.231, 2 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to read as follows:3 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 174.231. 1. On and after August 28, 2005, the 1 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | institution formerly known as Missouri Southern State 2 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | College located in Joplin, J asper County, shall be known as 3 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | "Missouri Southern State University". Missouri Southern 4 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | State University is hereby designated and shall hereafter be 5 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | operated as a statewide institution of international or 6 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | global education, health and life sciences, an d immersive 7 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | learning experiences . The Missouri Southern State 8 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | University is hereby designated a moderately selective 9 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | institution which shall provide associate degree programs 10 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | except as provided in subsection 2 of this section, 11 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | baccalaureate degree pr ograms, and graduate degree programs 12 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | pursuant to subdivisions (1) and (3) of subsection 2 of 13 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | section 173.005. The institution shall develop such 14 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | academic support programs and public service activities it 15 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | deems necessary and appropriate to establish in ternational 16 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | or global education as a distinctive theme of its mission. 17 SB 279 2 |

|---|
| 33 | 33 | | University shall discontinue any and all associate degree 19 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | programs unless the continuation of such associate degree 20 |

| 35 | 35 | | programs is approved by the coordinating board for higher 21 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | education pursuant to subdivision (1) of subsection 2 of 22 |
|---|
