88 To repeal section 174.231, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to missions

1111 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
1212 Section A. Section 174.23 1, RSMo, is repealed and one new 1
1313 section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 174.231, 2
1414 to read as follows:3
1515 174.231. 1. On and after August 28, 2005, the 1
1616 institution formerly known as Missouri Southern State 2
1717 College located in Joplin, J asper County, shall be known as 3
1818 "Missouri Southern State University". Missouri Southern 4
1919 State University is hereby designated and shall hereafter be 5
2020 operated as a statewide institution of international or 6
2121 global education, health and life sciences, an d immersive 7
2222 learning experiences . The Missouri Southern State 8
2323 University is hereby designated a moderately selective 9
2424 institution which shall provide associate degree programs 10
2525 except as provided in subsection 2 of this section, 11
2626 baccalaureate degree pr ograms, and graduate degree programs 12
2727 pursuant to subdivisions (1) and (3) of subsection 2 of 13
2828 section 173.005. The institution shall develop such 14
2929 academic support programs and public service activities it 15
3030 deems necessary and appropriate to establish in ternational 16
3131 or global education as a distinctive theme of its mission. 17 SB 279 2
3232 2. As of July 1, 2008, Missouri Southern State 18
3333 University shall discontinue any and all associate degree 19
3434 programs unless the continuation of such associate degree 20
3535 programs is approved by the coordinating board for higher 21
3636 education pursuant to subdivision (1) of subsection 2 of 22
3737 section 173.005. 23
