Summary of purpose and/or changes:
LB 257 allows marriage and family therapists from another jurisdiction to be issued a Nebraska license.
Sec. 1:  Current reciprocity provisions are changed.  DHHS is required, with the recommendation of the Board of
Mental Health Practice, to issue a license to a marriage and family therapist based on a licensure in another
jurisdiction to an individual who:  has a valid, independent, and unrestricted license as a marriage and family therapist
in another state or territory; completes an application and pays all applicable fees; and has passed the Nebraska
jurisprudence examination.
Sec. 2:  Current requirements for a certified marriage and family counselor are changed.  DHHS, with the
recommendation of the Board of Mental Health Practice, is required to issue a certificate to a marriage and family
therapist based on licensure in another jurisdiction to an individual who:  has a valid, independent, and unrestricted
license as a marriage and family therapist in another state or territory; completes an application and pays all
applicable fees; and has passed the Nebraska jurisprudence examination.
