The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be
accomplished thereby:
LB 388 proposes changes to the process for nominating and electing members of Nebraska
Judicial Nominating Commissions to address challenges that have arisen under the current
structure. The bill extends timelines for nominations made by the NSBA, requires that
members be residents of the district covered by a commission, allows members to serve
on more than one commission, extends term limits to 12 consecutive years, and allows for
elections for attorney members to be conducted by electronic means if necessary.€
