Summary of purpose and/or changes:
LB 388 changes the provisions relating to judicial nominating commissions, including residency and membership
requirements, terms of office, and the process for nominating and electing members. The bill extends timelines for
nominations made by the Nebraska State Bar Association, requires that members be residents of the district covered
by a commission, allows members to serve on more than one commission, extends term limits to 12 consecutive
years, and allows for nominations and elections of lawyer members to be conducted by electronic means if
necessary.
The bill also changes provisions for filling commission vacancies and regarding the powers and duties of the Clerk of
the Supreme Court and Executive Council of the Nebraska State Bar Association.
