Senate Resolution No. 252 BY: Senator HELMING MOURNING the death of Floyd D. Sick, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Floyd D. Sick distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and WHEREAS, Born in Dansville, New York on February 24, 1961, Floyd D. Sick was the son of the late Frederick and Irene (Weart) Sick; and WHEREAS, On September 23, 1989, Floyd D. Sick married Shelly Councilman Sick and they raised their children Josh and Hailey in his hometown of Dansville; and WHEREAS, Floyd D. Sick worked many jobs throughout his life; most recently, he was the Transportation Supervisor for the Dansville Central School System; he loved working for the school and the people who worked there, but the job he most cherished was working for the Shay family at Main Tire in Dansville; and WHEREAS, Always committed to his community, Floyd D. Sick was involved in the Dansville Rotary Club for 41 years, the Dansville Fire Department for 31 years, and Dansville Ambulance EMT for 11 years, with volunteer service for many more; he additionally was active with Dansville Youth Softball League, Dansville Little League, and Dansville Wildcats Basketball; and WHEREAS, With a passion for service, Floyd D. Sick was a Trustee and Vice Mayor for the Village of Dansville at the time of his passing; he posthumously received the Robert J. Uplinger Award from the Dansville Lions Club for his immense contributions to the community; and WHEREAS, A testament to his unrelenting care for others, Floyd D. Sick was instrumental in the founding of the Genesee Valley BOCES Emergency Medical Services, advocating for its creation after seeing a need for young fire and emergency medical professionals in his community and across New York State; and WHEREAS, Floyd D. Sick's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, Floyd D. Sick departed this Earth on October 20, 2023, at the age of 62; and WHEREAS, Floyd D. Sick is survived by his beloved wife Shelley and his cherished children, Joshua Sick and Hailey (Michael) Snyder; he is predeceased by his brother Paul Sick and sister-in-law Vicki Councilman; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Floyd D. Sick leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Floyd D. Sick, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Floyd D. Sick.
