Senate Resolution No. 315 BY: Senator SEPULVEDA CONGRATULATING Zoe Saldana upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on January 5, 2025 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay tribute to those artistic geniuses whose commitment and creative talents have contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of their community, the State of New York, the Nation and the world; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Zoe Saldana upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Golden Globe Award on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, In addition to winning her first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Emilia Perez," Zoe Saldana is nominated for an Academy Award for the same performance; and WHEREAS, Zoe Saldana is an American actress of Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, born on June 19, 1978, in Passaic, New Jersey, and raised in Queens, New York; her parents, Aridio Saldana and Asalia Nazario, hail from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, giving her a rich, diverse cultural background; and WHEREAS, From an early age, Zoe Saldana developed a passion for the arts, particularly dance, studying ballet throughout her schooling; however, it was her shift to acting that propelled her into the spotlight; and WHEREAS, Zoe Saldana first gained widespread attention with her role in "Center Stage" (2000), where she played a talented dancer, but her major breakthrough came in 2009 when she starred in two blockbuster films: James Cameron's "Avatar," where she portrayed Neytiri, and "Star Trek," in which she played Uhura; both films saw massive success, solidifying her status as a leading figure in Hollywood; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, Zoe Saldana continued to shine in major franchises, such as "Guardians of the Galaxy," where she played the iconic character Gamora, and the "Avatar" sequels; she has also ventured into other genres with films like "The Losers" (2010), "Colombiana" (2011), and "Infinitely Polar Bear" (2014), showcasing her versatility and ability to portray complex, multifaceted characters; and WHEREAS, Recognized as one of the most successful Latina actresses of her generation, Zoe Saldana is also an advocate for inclusion, minority representation, and women's empowerment in Hollywood; she actively supports migrant rights and cultural diversity, emphasizing the importance of embracing one's heritage and identity; and WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Marco, and their three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her many accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Zoe Saldana's career is a testament to her incredible talent, resilience, and dedication to her craft; from her breakthrough roles in "Avatar" and "Star Trek" to her powerful performances in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Emilia Perez," she has proven time and again that she is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood; and WHEREAS, Beyond her acting achievements, Zoe Saldana's advocacy for inclusion, diversity, and empowerment has made her a trailblazer for future generations of artists; as one of the most prominent Latina actresses of her generation, she continues to inspire audiences worldwide, proving that success in the film industry goes beyond talent-it's about breaking boundaries and staying true to one's roots; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Zoe Saldana upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, and to wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Zoe Saldana.
