 Senate Resolution No. 370 BY: Senator MYRIE COMMENDING the Adirondack Council upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2025 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations that embrace the historical significance and contributions of their localities which strengthen the fabric of the communities of New York State; and WHEREAS, The quality of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its exceptional cultural, educational, and recreational institutions; these institutions give positive definition to the profile and disposition of the communities of the State of New York and profoundly strengthen our society with their commitment; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Adirondack Council upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2025; and WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1975, the Adirondack Council has been the largest citizen environmental group in New York State; its Mission Statement is "To ensure the ecological integrity and wild character of the Adirondack Park for current and future generations"; and WHEREAS, The Adirondack Council's members have focused on protecting, supporting, and ensuring that the Adirondack Region can be enjoyed by all individuals; they work full-time on a daily basis in the Adirondack Park, New York State's Capital City of Albany, and Washington, D.C., to preserve this six-million-acre national treasure and help to sustain the natural and human communities of the region; and WHEREAS, Additionally, the Adirondack Council advocates for the planning and protection of the land and its use, conducts research on issues affecting the ecology and economy of the Adirondack Park, educates the public via media and the school system, and litigates to uphold constitutional protections and agency policies which were established; and WHEREAS, The Adirondack Council utilizes the latest science, the laws of New York State, and an understanding of the process of decisions made by those who legislate public policy; the Council cooperates with numerous partners, promoting diversity and finding common ground on complex issues; and WHEREAS, The members of the Adirondack Council have both a common goal and a hopeful vision which are to preserve and maintain the Adirondack Park's clean air and water, large wilderness areas, working forests and farms, and vibrant, safe, and inclusive communities; and WHEREAS, Without government funding, the Adirondack Council receives financial support from private individuals and foundations who are like-minded in their focus on protecting all that is unique to the Adirondacks; and WHEREAS, To further the vision for the Adirondack Park, the Adirondack Council sponsors and publishes research, educates the policy makers, and advocates for regulations, policies, and funding to benefit the Park's environment and communities; and WHEREAS, The tireless effort of the members of the Adirondack Council showcases the rich history of the Adirondack Region and demonstrates the commitment to ensure this rich history will be passed on to future generations; and WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, the Adirondack Council has allowed citizens to learn about their local history effectively while appreciating and enjoying the Adirondack Region and all its natural and cultural heritage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend the Adirondack Council upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2025; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Adirondack Council.
