Section 500-j of the correction law, as amended by chapter 2 291 of the laws of 2009, is amended to read as follows: 3 § 500-j. Who may visit local correctional facilities. The following 4 persons may visit at pleasure all local correctional facilities: The 5 governor and lieutenant-governor, secretary of state, comptroller and 6 attorney-general, members of the legislature and their accompanying 7 staff as requested by the member of the legislature, members of the 8 elected legislative body of the county in which the local correctional 9 facility is located and their accompanying staff as requested by the 10 member of such legislative body, in the city of New York, members of the 11 city council and their accompanying staff as requested by the city coun- 12 cil member, judges of the court of appeals, justices of the supreme 13 court and county judges, district attorneys and every [clergyman] cler- 14 gymember or minister, as such terms are defined in section two of the 15 religious corporations law, having charge of a congregation in the coun- 16 ty in which such facility is located. No other person not otherwise 17 authorized by law shall be permitted to enter the rooms of a local 18 correctional facility in which convicts are confined, unless under such 19 regulations as the sheriff of the county, or in counties within the city 20 of New York, the commissioner of correction of such city, or in the EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. S. 1892--A 2 1 county of Westchester, the commissioner of correction of such county 2 shall prescribe. 3 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
