PARKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Consumer Protection AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation to the manufactur- ing of portable electronic devices The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new article 2 40-A to read as follows: 3 ARTICLE 40-A 4 PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES 5 Section 925. Manufacturing requirements. 6 § 925. Manufacturing requirements. 1. For the purposes of this 7 section, "portable electronic device" shall mean any hand-held mobile 8 telephone, as defined by subdivision one of section twelve hundred twen- 9 ty-five-c of the vehicle and traffic law, personal digital assistant 10 (PDA), or handheld device with mobile data access. 11 2. On and after January first, two thousand twenty-seven, no manufac- 12 turer shall provide for sale in this state any portable electronic 13 device not equipped with an ATSC 3.0 chip. 14 § 2.
