BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codi fied in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 9-120 of Title 70, unless there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows: A. Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, a school district may use a portion of the transportation funds allocated to the school district pursuant to Section 18 -201.1 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes to provide transportation grants to parents or legal guardians of students who attend the school district. The school district shall develop and submit a plan to the State Req. Upon approval of the plan b y the Department, school districts may distribute transportation grants to suppo rt individuals or neighborhood carpools in transporting students to and from school. B. The transportation funds allocated to the school district pursuant to Section 18 -201.1 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes shall not be reduced or otherwise penalized if the school district awards transportation grants authorized in this section . C. The State Department of Education shall promulgate rules for the transportation grants and develop procedures to account for expenditures as provided by this section, including requiring proof of attendance for stude nts who are transported to and fro m school through transportation grant funds. SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2022. SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, he alth or safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage an d approval. 58-2-8853 EK 01/16/22
