145 | 219 | | acquire by lease or gift, and use and maintain such sta tion wagons, |

146 | 220 | | automobiles, trucks, or buses as are reasonably necessary for the |
---|
147 | 221 | | implementation of the educational programs of said the institutions. |
---|
148 | 222 | | 2. No bus operated, owned, or used by such educational |
---|
149 | 223 | | institutions shall be permitted to carry any person othe r than |
---|
150 | 224 | | students, faculty members, employees , or volunteers of such |
---|
151 | 225 | | institutions. The provi sions of this section shall not be constr ued |
---|
152 | 226 | | to prohibit: |
---|
153 | 227 | | a. the operation of intracampus buses or buses routed |
---|
154 | 228 | | directly between portions of the campus of any |
---|
155 | 229 | | institution not adjacent to each other, nor to |
---|
156 | 230 | | prohibit the collection of fares from such student s, |
---|
157 | 231 | | faculty members, or employees of such institutions, |
---|
158 | 232 | | sufficient in amount to cover the reasonable cost of |
---|
159 | 233 | | such transportation, or |
---|
160 | 234 | | b. the Oklahoma School for the Bl ind or the Oklahoma |
---|
161 | 235 | | School for the Deaf from entering into agreements with |
---|
162 | 236 | | local public school districts pursuant to the |
---|
163 | 237 | | Interlocal Cooperation Act for th e mutual use of the |
---|
164 | 238 | | schools’ and the districts’ vehicles. Such use may |
---|
193 | 291 | | students from local school districts with students |
---|
194 | 292 | | from the Oklahoma School for the Blind or the Oklahoma |
---|
195 | 293 | | School for the Deaf in v ehicles owned by the Oklahoma |
---|
196 | 294 | | School for the Blind or the Oklahoma School for the |
---|
197 | 295 | | Deaf when traveling to school-related activities. |
---|
198 | 296 | | C. The J.D. McCarty Center for Children with Developmental |
---|
199 | 297 | | Disabilities, the Oklahoma Department of L ibraries, the Oklahoma |
---|
200 | 298 | | Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Oklahoma Veterans Centers |
---|
201 | 299 | | may own and maintain such passenger vehicles as those institutions |
---|
202 | 300 | | have acquired prior to May 1, 1981. |
---|
203 | 301 | | D. The use of station wagons, automobiles, and buses, other |
---|
204 | 302 | | than as provided for in t his section, shall be permitted only upon |
---|
205 | 303 | | written request for such use by heads of departments of the |
---|
206 | 304 | | institution, approved in writing by the president of said the |
---|
207 | 305 | | institution or by some administrative official of said the |
---|
208 | 306 | | institution authorized by the pre sident to grant said the approval. |
---|
209 | 307 | | Such use shall be permitted only for official institutional business |
---|
210 | 308 | | or activities connected therewith. Such use shall be subject to the |
---|
211 | 309 | | provisions of Section 156.1 of this title forbidding persona l use of |
---|
212 | 310 | | such vehicles, and to the penalties therein declared. |
---|
213 | 311 | | E. Any person convicted of violating the provisions of this |
---|
214 | 312 | | section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by |
---|
244 | 366 | | F. For the purpose of this section and Section 156.3 of this |
---|
245 | 367 | | title, a station wagon is classified as a passenger automobil e and |
---|
246 | 368 | | may not be purchased solely for the use of transporting property. |
---|
247 | 369 | | Such vehicles shall include, but not be limited to, all vehicles |
---|
248 | 370 | | which have no separate luggage compartment or trunk but which do not |
---|
249 | 371 | | have open beds, whether the same are called stati on wagons, vans, |
---|
250 | 372 | | suburbans, town and country, blazers , or any other names. All state |
---|
251 | 373 | | boards, commissions, departments , and institutions may o wn and |
---|
252 | 374 | | maintain station wagons purchased solely for the purpose of |
---|
253 | 375 | | transporting property if acquired prior to July 1, 1985. |
---|
254 | 376 | | G. The provisions of this section and Section 156.1 of this |
---|
255 | 377 | | title shall not apply to public officials who are statewide elected |
---|
256 | 378 | | commissioners or statewide elected officials . |
---|
257 | 379 | | SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2021. |
